Revision Advice

Prepare as much as possible for your speaking exams which take place in April of Year 11.  You can revise in a variety of ways:

  • Learn the key vocabulary to help you answer the role play and photo card questions.
  • Practise answering the lists of sample “unseen” questions. Remember that your answer always needs to contain a verb!
  • Use the personalised lists of questions and answers for the general conversation section of the oral exam. There are between 30 and 50 answers that need to be learnt, so this should form a major part of revision. Aim to spend some time each day learning answers as this will be more effective than a few long sessions.

Here are some suggested revision strategies:

  • Make quizlet study sets http://www.quizlet.com/(link is external). This is helpful as you can listen to the pronunciation of your answers.
  • Make revision cards.
  • Record or ask your language teacher to record your answers on your phone so that you can listen to them.
  • Have questions and answers on flashcards around your room.
  • Practise with a friend or family member asking the questions. For many of you, this will be the most effective way of learning these answers.

Oral Exam

Revise grammar and vocabulary. Useful revision resources include:

  • Vocabulary and grammar booklets provided by teachers.
  • Websites such as Memrise and Quizlet
  • Complete as many exam style writing and translation questions as possible. Teachers will be happy to mark these and give feedback on how to improve!

Finally, do as much past paper practice as possible. Practise past listening and reading papers by following this link
