Curriculum Subjects

Welcome to our curriculum pages where you can find contact information for our subject staff along with their roles and responsibilities. You can also view information on the subject curriculum across the key stages.

We have a three year Key Stage 3 and a two year Key Stage 4. This ensures that by the time students make their option choices in Year 9 they have well developed knowledge of the curriculum to help them make informed choices. In Year 9, the last year of Key Stage 3 students start to cover elements of our GCSE courses.

We take great care when grouping students in different subjects. Students are mostly taught in mixed ability classes across the school. Students are set by ability in Maths and Languages from a point in Year 7, this is followed by Science in Year 9. Setting in these three subjects continues into Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11).

We believe that elsewhere in the curriculum mixed ability teaching serves our students well. Clearly this is dependent on effective differentiation that ensures our most able students are stretched and challenged whilst other students are also appropriately catered for. Regular monitoring and tracking of performance helps ensure that students do not fall behind, if we have concerns about an individual’s progress we will inform parents and ensure we intervene quickly to move them on.

Our expectation is that all students, regardless of ability, make very good progress as they move through the school. We encourage any parents who have concerns about their child’s progress to contact us in order to discuss the matter.

If you wish to know more about the curriculum we offer please contact Miss K Marlborough, Deputy Headteacher (kmarlborough [at] imberhorne [dot] co [dot] uk), in the first instance.
