Le Lycee de Thann from Strasbourg visits Imberhorne

On Friday 13th March we welcomed a visit of 46 French Sixth Form students from Le Lycée de Thann in Strasbourg. The French students had been briefed that it was also Comic Relief day and they were to be prepared for what they were about to experience! It was a very successful few hours – English students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 all took part in language exercises with their partners and enjoyed meeting them and finding out about their lives both in France and at school. The first hour was spent asking basic questions and many of our students practiced their GCSE oral questions from their oral booklet! After break the students worked in groups on questions from the booklet, talking about the importance and role of Comic Relief. They also greatly enjoyed telling each other jokes in English and French! Our students worked extremely hard and they were not intimidated by the challenge of explaining what Comic Relief is in French. The last activity of the morning was a presentation given by our Yr12 French students on the topic of education and more specifically, “La vie à Imberhorne”. Our students were magnificent! They had prepared a fantastic presentation and delivered it with confidence and with very good accents – there were whispers in the audience of “il/elle parle bien!”.Our students were truly outstanding and I think the French school was amazed with our students’ confidence and versatility, as some Yr 12s then performed in the band at lunch following their presentation.Thank you to Mrs Jones for helping and telling a few jokes in French and to Roxanne Higelin (our French assistant ) for preparing the students. Mr F.Murray
