Career Exploration

Year 9s have been choosing their GCSE Options during the month of January, supported by a programme of mentoring, presentations and Q&A sessions. To compliment this programme, on Tuesday 25th January, our Careers Team organised a Career Exploration day to encourage the Year 9s to start thinking about the skills and qualities that are needed across a wide variety of careers. With the help and support of many friends, community partners and alumni of Imberhorne School who completed job profiles for us, we had more than 100 job roles on display. This meant that our students had a great selection of careers which opened their minds to the opportunites for their futures and allowed them to make a connection to the skills needed for work place success.

We were really encouraged with the outcomes of the event. 77% of Year 9s said they are more aware of what skills are valued by employers following the Career Exploration Day and an impressive 64% were inspired to start thinking about own career, which is really encouraging at this stage of their education. Mr Aucock, Head of Year 9, said "I could not have been more pleased with the way that students engaged with the tasks set, actively taking in the information from the different roles and considering what careers they may want to pursue and how their skills matched up".
