Youth Debate Success

We could not be more proud to share some very exciting Imberhorne success from the 'Youth Debate Public Speaking Competition' that took place on Monday 11th November at the Chequer Mead Theatre. Our young and enthusiastic Year 8 trio took first place, beating off some tough competition from local schools, as they debated their chosen topic 'Older generations must take responsibility for climate change'

The format for the long standing Rotary Club competition changed this year so that instead of a team of three, in agreement on their topic, two students now debate their topic, whilst the third student introduces and concludes proceedings. An interesting new format!

Our Year 8 team comprising Tia Ghandi, Risha Pandi and Sebastian Greaves were outstanding and will now progress to the next round.

A special mention must also go to our Year 9 team, Vicky Scholes, Keira Frankland and Rhianna Birtchnell  who also impressed us and the judges with their debating motion, 'Reading books is a waste of time'....(which of course none of them actually agree with and they are all extremely supportive of reading whenever possible and relish their DEAR time every day!)

Thank you to Mrs Hughes, English teacher and High Achieving Student Coordinator at Imberhorne, who coached the teams superbly and supported them throughout this entire opportunity. Fingers crossed for the next round.
