Year 9 Careers Workshop

Over 20 volunteers from the world of work gave up their time on Tuesday 28th January to take part in our Year 9 Careers Workshop. This event, organised by our Careers Team at Imberhorne for the entire year group, has become a real favourite in the calendar with several of the volunteers returning year after year as they enjoy the event so much.

Small groups of students rotated around employers/employees from a variety of  employment sectors during a one hour time slot. The Year 9s excitedly delved into what took the volunteer into their chosen field, how their career had progressed and what their current job involves.  Our visitors were so impressed by our Year 9 students and we are pleased to say that this was the feeling from our students about our visitors too!

We welcomed a Police Dog Handler, various Healthcare specialists, Transport Planner, Yoga Instructor, Event Planner, Architect, Engineer, Town Planning Officer, Fine Arts Publisher, Artist, Geophysicist, Chartered Accountant, Graphic Designer, HR Coordinator, Talent Officer, Activity Instructor, Trainee Solicitor, Travel Agent, Recruitment Consultant and a Silversmith/Prom Dress Specialist. Quite an assortment and we can't thank them enough for their time and enthusiasm. It is so important for our students to have meaningful encounters with adults from a variety of working backgrounds and this is just one of the ways in which we ensure this happens at Imberhorne. Our programme of TED style careers talks, volunteering opportunities, work experience weeks and mock interview days are just a few more examples.
