Year 12 Blacklands Trip

You must understand that I am not an outdoors-y person. I don’t do sport. I don’t go camping. I certainly don’t jump off the top of 30 foot poles while my classmates are holding the rope. For goodness’ sakes, I don’t even tan! So why on earth did I enjoy Blacklands Farm?Maybe it was the odd activities we took part in, such as giant jenga, or trying to escape from a rope triangle. Maybe it was the sunshine (I am reliably informed that it was the hottest anyone has ever known it to be on an Imberhorne trip to Blacklands). Maybe it was Humphrey, or Clucky, or Hamish the eggs, despite their spectacularly messy demises. Or maybe it was that the day really did what it was meant to: by the end of it, we were all best friends with people to whom we’d said possibly three words beforehand. Even if they did force me to confront my entirely rational fear of heights.A special ‘shout-out’ must go to the staff who organised the day (thank you ever so much!) and also to Team 15, who won the day with a whopping 2185 points; they were Jake Thayre, Jackson Willett, Becca White, James Wickenden, Russell Whiting, Matt Wilkins, Mike Van Loocke, Nicky Cole, Stacy Ekuful and a sadly nameless egg, who stayed happily intact.By Megan Birch Year 12
