Books Reach New Home in Nigeria - February 2013

Despite its vast wealth many Nigerians live in poverty and last year Kogi state suffered severe floods with many families being made homeless.  ‘Shelterbox’ provides emergency kits for those homeless families which include tents, sleeping bags, and cooking equipment.  ‘One World’ a church based charity in South London collects clothing, bedding and toys. They are also setting up education centres for women and children. Book donations given by Imberhorne School Library have been shipped by these two charities to these education centres.  David Covell, a parent of a Year 10 student and an employee of Allport Cargo Services, Gatwick has driven this project along with Sara Smart, Senior Librarian at Imberhorne.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Sara commented “We can only imagine the devastation that the floods caused in this country, so knowing our donation is helping at an education centre for women and children makes us feel very proud”
