On 28th March 2011 the Government announced a new 16-19 Bursary Fund to support the most vulnerable young people in participating in and benefitting from post-16 education and training. This fund replaces the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA).

Those who qualify for the bursary are:

  • Students in care, care leavers, young people inreceipt of income support and disabled students,
  • Students registered for free school meals
