After taking the scenic route to Llangorse in Wales (the motorway was closed) we arrived at our beautiful lakeside location in time to let off steam before dinner.
That night an evening scavenger hunt kept students busy and familiarised them with their new home-away-from-home. Despite a busy afternoon, the last few whispers in the tents and cabins went on beyond midnight but the next day was a different story, a day full of activities: raft building, sailing, canoeing, climbing, abseiling and challenge course to name a few.
Students tackled the challenges they were faced with, head on and were able to succeed in overcoming fears, meet new friends, work side-by-side with their teachers and develop their teamwork skills. By the end of another evening of entertainment most students were asleep before lights out!

Throughout the week the soon-to-be Year 10s travelled between two camps in the Brecon Beacons, working their way through a busy program of outdoor adventure as well as heading into the hills to admire stunning views of the surrounding valleys. Between activities students filled up with freshly-prepared food to fuel them through their active schedule... Students were positive about the meals they were offered and many had been surprised by how good it was. Of course, there was always room for sweets and I was amazed by the number of wrappers piled into the bin each day.
At the end of the week students were asking if we could stay just one more day....”please...??????”, and I wish I could have said yes! The Imberhorne staff present were extremely impressed with the teamwork, resilience and independence we saw in the students we took to Wales. On the feedback forms the students filled in there were three obvious learning outcomes from the week: they had learnt a great deal about working together and perseverance. They also realised that teachers can have fun too!
