As part of our recycling theme, we recently held an event called TRASH, which some of you may have attended (or seen our page and a half spread in the EG Courier!). If you did, may I take this opportunity to thank you all for your support. We raised a total of £385.41, which, considering it cost us £6 to put on, is a good profit by anyone’s standards.
The event was an evening of recycled art, music and fashion. The art club exhibited sculptures they had made using waste materials and the samba band performed Sandi Thom’s ‘Punk rocker’ using instruments made out of rubbish.
Some months ago we invited TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development) to come into school and teach the pupils how to design and make clothes using second-hand materials. This was put to excellent effect with the fashion show - the highlight of the evening - where pupils from four year groups got the chance to model their own created designs using second hand clothes and materials. The influence for the event came from seeing images from London Fashion Week, where a number of designers had a similar theme.
The whole evening was a massive success, especially for the pupils, who thoroughly enjoyed it. After their initial nervousness, they all wanted to get back on the catwalk, as soon as they had got off! A great confidence booster for all!
Thank you again to all those who supported this and other Eco-school events. Keep watching this space for updates of our future plans.
