The ImberArt Exhibition this year took place on the evening of Wednesday 22 June and celebrated the art work of all year groups from Year 7 to Year 13.  Students’ Technology work and Poetry were on also on display.

There was a very good turnout this year and parents, staff and friends marvelled at the creativity and skill of our students and the wide variety of work produced; from large scale photo realist paintings, to abstract sculptures based on dreams, suits to ball gowns, clocks, chairs and tables, designs and a model for an exotic tree house, and poems to transport and intrigue. Commendations were awarded to many students this year for particularly original and creative final outcomes. ‘Art Student of the Year’ was awarded to Natasha Povey whose creativity; enthusiasm and prolific output are exemplary.

I am delighted that Reed Business Information sponsored our exhibition again this year and their awards went to Jed Kafetz (Yr 12) and Katie Clarke (Yr11).The work by these two students will be hung in the reception area of Reed Business Information for one year.

This year the exhibition included a room dedicated to the creative work of Imberhorne staff.  This room displayed an eclectic mix of creative work, including poetry, a relief sculpture in Portland stone, a large clay sculpture of a Buddha, a rocking horse, drawings, mono-prints, oil paintings, silver and porcelain jewellery, photographs,  woven, knitted and stitched textiles, including an exhibition tutu. The overall prize for staff entries was awarded to Ali Redmond for her considerable skill in a range of media.

Guest, Annie Freud, tapestry artist, embroiderer and poet, was very complementary about the creative work and poetry on display. Annie read some of her own poetry from her book ‘The Mirabelles’ (T.S Elliot Shortlist 2010) in the library, sharing with us some of the personal stories that have inspired her work.

It was fabulous to see so much interest this year and to be able to celebrate the enormous effort and commitment shown by our students and staff and I look forward to seeing you all again next year.
