PE at KS3

During their time at Key Stage 3, students will experience a broad and balanced Physical Education curriculum. Emphasis is placed on both skill development and enjoyment during their lessons, with an ambition to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Curriculum

As part of the Key Stage 3 curriculum at Imberhorne School, students take part in two hours of Physical Education a week; one indoor lesson and one outdoor lesson. Each half term, students participate in different activities covering a variety of the following: Rugby, Football, Basketball, Netball, Hockey, Table Tennis, Gymnastics, Dance, Health and Fitness, Rounders, Cricket, Softball, Stoolball, Tennis and Athletics. In Year 9, students also experience GCSE and BTEC taster lessons which are carried out in the classroom. Theoretical elements of P.E. are taught in these lessons allowing the students an insight of what is to be expected if they wish to opt for a sports course at Key Stage 4.

To find out what is covered each half term, please see the curriculum documents at the foot of this page.

Extra-curricular

At Imberhorne School, we pride ourselves on providing the students with many opportunities to develop their skills during and outside of lessons. We offer many extra-curricular activities that run/change on a termly basis, which all students are welcome to attend. These include: Rugby, Football, Netball, Basketball, Dance, Athletics, Cricket and Rounders.

Assessment

Students will be assessed in each of the activities that they take part in. Two assessments are carried out at the end of each half term for both indoor and outdoor activities. Assessment is based on: performance, skill development, knowledge and understanding, tactics and analysis. When students are assessed they are attributed with a flight path. For further details on flight path allocations within an activity please contact vpritchard [at] imberhorne [dot] co [dot] uk
